Description
Inspired by burlesque, this is a weaving workshop with a twist! Learn basic contemporary basketry techniques or apply existing basket making knowledge you may possess to make a small sculptural basket from unexpected mediums such as rope, old clothing, plastic bags and plant fibres. Then learn to extend these skills to make a wearable art piece such as a fascinator or corset.

Darwin visual, Aly takes the traditions of basket-making and weaving ‘then drags them kicking and screaming into strange new places’ (Art Nation, ABC TV, March, 2011). As an Australian contemporary fibre artist and recipient of a Charles Darwin University PhD Post Graduate Scholarship, Aly is focusing on environmental and social issues in regards to fibre art and basketry. www.alydegroot.com.au
