Description

This workshop will be held over two consecutive Saturdays.

Using observation of real objects, Gabrielle will walk you through a number of exercises, thinking methods, tools and imagination games to develop your ability to make interesting abstract work, move your realistic painting away from the predictable, or improve composition and subject ideas.

Tuition is structured to ensure fast learning and early success and to stimulate creativity and generate ideas for on-going work. Suitable for those wishing to break out of their current painting rut, move from realism to abstraction, or who simply wish to explore abstraction and extend their creativity (view Gabrielle’s website on

MATERIALS:
Acrylics: suggested minimum colour palette of cool/warm colours: alizarin hue/cadmium red hue, ultramarine blue/cerulean blue, cadmium lemon yellow/cobalt yellow hue/yellow ochre, raw umber, Paynes grey, titanium white. *Oils may be used provided some acrylics are available for use in "group" work.
Brushes: mid-size rounds; flats (2 small, 4 medium, 2 large), fine brush for detail, 2 cheap Chinese 2" brushes
Canvases: 2 per class with one side a minimum of 18"/45cm
Palette knife: sharp, flexible, around 5cm long with deep S shape handle
Additional: Cartridge drawing paper; pencils, ruler, selection of tissue paper in various colours; jar for water/ medium, disposable gloves or barrier cream, baby wipes, apron, rags,

THERE IS A LIMIT OF 10 PARTICIPANTS. ONLY WRITTEN, PAID APPLICATIONS RECEIVED (BY MAIL OR HAND) AT THE STUDIO WILL BE ACCEPTED AND WORKSHOP PLACES WILL BE ALLOCATED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS. NO CANCELLATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE WORKSHOP
