The Heart-Felt Mandala – Martien Van Zuilen
Start Date : 27 February 2012
End Date : 1 March 2012
Location :
Grampians Road, Halls Gap, Victoria, Australia
Description
Make a hand-felted rug inspired by the ‘Mandala’. Loosely translated to mean ‘circle’, a Mandala represents wholeness and balance; its symbolism appears in many cultures and aspects of life. Explore felt-specific techniques for surface design; including colour blending, pattern inlay, shading, and the effects of using simple stitch. This class guides students through the possibilities of mark-making in felt to create rugs that are functional and inspirational. No experience necessary.
Martien began felting in 1985 and over the past 22 years, has taught felt- making workshops at all levels throughout Australia, Russia, the UK, Holland and the US. Martien is the founder of the Victorian Feltmakers Inc. and the coordinator of the Australian National Yurt Project. www.martienvanzuilen.com
