Description
UNDER WATER BASKET WEAVING- MAKING SHIFT- Aly De Groot
Weave and manifest your hopes and dreams for positive change using ghost nets amongst other recycled man-made debris. Learn basic contemporary basketry techniques or apply existing knowledge to make a Ghost Net Basket. These baskets are, in actuality, often dysfunctional as utilitarian objects, with their main purpose being to prevent the nets from contributing further to environmental injury. Their purpose is to establish a creative avenue to educate people about the ghost net problem and the vulnerability of the sea.
Aly is a visual artist from Darwin who takes the traditions of basket-making and weaving ‘then drags them kicking and screaming into strange new places’ (Art Nation, ABC TV, March, 2011). www.alydegroot.com.au
